Tax-strategy planning at BML
Financial Tax Planning Strategies
Retirement, investment, and tax decisions are connected.

Bring a tax-aware perspective to your financial plan.
Understanding those connections can help you evaluate choices before you act.
BML Wealth Management offers an additional tax-strategy planning resource for clients through Dallin Sproul, CPA, Tax Planning Manager. Dallin works alongside the BML team to help clients consider how financial decisions may affect their tax picture over time.
This planning support complements the work of your own CPA or tax preparer; it does not replace that relationship or include preparing or filing your tax returns.

Meet Dallin Sproul, CPA
Tax Planning Manager
Dallin brings public accounting experience to BML’s financial planning discussions. His background includes tax compliance and advisory work for individuals, corporations, and partnerships, with prior roles at HCVT, PwC, and Alvarez & Marsal. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University and a Master of Accountancy from Utah Valley University.
At BML, his focus includes year-end tax forecasting and multi-year planning considerations, helping connect tax-related questions with your broader financial priorities.
Tax planning considerations we can explore
Your income, account types, family circumstances, and goals shape the conversation. Depending on your needs, planning discussions may include the following areas. These are considerations for review, not recommendations to implement a particular strategy.

Multi-year tax planning
Looking beyond a single filing season can help frame questions about retirement timing, changing income, or a significant financial event. Dallin can help evaluate planning scenarios and identify matters to discuss with your tax professional. Projections depend on assumptions and information provided; actual results and future tax laws may differ.
Retirement income and withdrawal coordination
Withdrawals from different account types can have different tax consequences. Reviewing income sources, required minimum distributions, and anticipated spending together may help you evaluate withdrawal choices. Taxes are one consideration alongside liquidity, investment risk, and long-term needs. Explore BML's income planning approach.
Roth conversion analysis
A Roth conversion may be worth evaluating in some circumstances, but it is not appropriate for everyone. Converting pre-tax retirement assets generally creates taxable income in the conversion year. The analysis should consider the current tax cost, available funds to pay it, withdrawal rules, and uncertain future tax rates. A conversion does not guarantee lower lifetime taxes.
Tax-aware investment decisions
Planning may include where investments are held across taxable and tax-advantaged accounts, the timing of realized gains, and whether harvesting investment losses fits the broader plan. Wash-sale rules and activity in other accounts can affect loss deductions. Transaction costs, portfolio changes, and future taxes can reduce or offset potential benefits. Tax considerations should not override investment suitability or risk management. Learn about investment planning at BML.
Charitable giving considerations
If charitable giving is part of your goals, discussions may address the timing and type of gifts, including qualified charitable distributions from eligible IRAs when applicable. Eligibility, limits, recipient qualifications, and documentation requirements matter. A charitable gift does not automatically qualify for a tax deduction, and a nontaxable qualified charitable distribution cannot also be claimed as a charitable deduction.
Year-end review and professional coordination
Changes in compensation, retirement dates, account distributions, or family circumstances may create questions before year-end. A coordinated review can help organize those questions for your tax preparer and financial planning team. Any implementation should be evaluated with the appropriate professionals and within applicable deadlines.
An additional resource within your BML relationship
The purpose is to connect financial planning with tax-related considerations, not to make taxes the sole driver of a decision. Your BML team and Dallin can help put potential strategies in context, while your own CPA or tax preparer remains responsible for the tax preparation and filing services you engage them to provide.
Ask your BML advisor about the planning support available for your circumstances and the scope and terms that apply to your relationship.

Questions about tax-strategy planning
Does Dallin replace my CPA or prepare my tax return?
No. Dallin’s role in this service is tax-strategy planning support within your BML relationship, not replacing your CPA or preparing or filing your returns. Continue working with your own tax professional on tax advice, reporting, and filing matters.
Can this service guarantee tax savings?
No. Tax outcomes depend on your circumstances, applicable law, and implementation. A strategy may create current costs or tax obligations, and its expected benefits may not be realized.
